STATEN ISLAND, NY, August 11, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — Jonathan J. Rasouli, MD, has been recognized as a 2023 Castle Connolly Rising Star, an exceptional early-career physician and emerging leader.
Dr. Rasouli is a board-certified neurological surgeon who specializes in complex spinal surgery for the treatment of spinal deformities in adults. Alongside Northwell Health Physician Partners, he serves as the Director of Complex Spine and Reconstructive Spinal Surgery at Staten Island University Hospital.
Dr. Rasouli evaluates and, when appropriate, surgically treats spine conditions that include scoliosis, spinal deformity, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, spondylosis, and sagittal malalignment.
“I specialize in a wide range of spinal surgeries for my patients, from the most straightforward to the most complex and challenging cases,” he says. “At Northwell, we leverage the latest technologies, devices, and techniques, innovations that have truly revolutionized the way we perform spinal surgery.”
Dr. Rasouli’s expertise includes robotic and computer-assisted procedures, as well as minimally invasive endoscopic spinal surgeries for adult spinal deformities, scoliosis, and patients who have undergone previous spinal surgeries. This includes revision spinal surgery, often referred to as “do-over” surgeries.
The majority of people who see Dr. Rasouli suffer from chronic back pain that impacts their daily lives. He says it’s very satisfying to help eliminate that pain once and for all.
“Many of my patients come to me with chronic neck or back pain that keeps them from enjoying the activities they once loved. Often, they have been treated by other doctors and have even undergone previous surgeries, only to find that the pain can return. These are the patients I am particularly passionate about helping,” he says.
“I approach each patient as if they were a member of my own family, engaging in open dialogue about their symptoms, thoroughly reviewing their images, and collaboratively developing a personalized treatment strategy. The most rewarding part of my work is watching patients recover and regain their lives. It’s the driving force behind what I do every day.”
Dr. Rasouli is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, he serves as an assistant professor of neurological surgery at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
Dr. Rasouli sees patients at locations in Staten Island and Manhattan. He is affiliated with Staten Island University Hospital and Lenox Hill Hospital.
Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team.
“I am honored and humbled to be recognized as a Castle Connolly Rising Star for 2023. This award reflects not only my commitment to delivering exceptional care to my patients but also my dedication to ongoing research and innovation in spinal surgery. I’m immensely grateful for this acknowledgment.”
Dr. Rasouli earned his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed a seven-year residency in neurological surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital and a fellowship in complex spinal surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
