VENTURA, CA, June 06, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ — — Americans recognized Mental Health Awareness Month throughout May and though the month is over, the need for practical resources for stress and emotional well-being is not. According to a Pew Research study, roughly half of American adults under 30 say managing stress in their lives is a major challenge and one in three rate their mental health only fair or poor—higher than any older demographic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a report in May declaring the country’s youth to be in a mental health crisis.
In response, volunteers from the Hubbard Dianetics Foundation of Ventura joined a coordinated worldwide outreach, bringing mental health resources to communities across the city.
The outreach coincided with May as the anniversary month of the book Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, by L. Ron Hubbard, first published in 1950. More than 75 years later, over 20 million copies of the book are in circulation as part of an international movement reaching 225 countries and territories. The word Dianetics is derived from the Greek dia meaning “through,” and nous, “mind or soul” and means “what the mind is doing to the body.”
Over the weekend, volunteers reached out to the community at the Ventura Pier Boardwalk, offering Dianetics and its practical techniques for mental health. The volunteers gave free stress tests and answered questions so residents, students and families could discover more about the book and its approach that has helped readers address the source of stress, anxiety and unwanted emotions.
One visitor stopped by who had recently been laid off from his job. The situation was creating a great deal of anxiety for him, which in turn was affecting his entire family. After taking a stress test, he realized he could no longer sit by the wayside waiting for something to happen, he needed to take charge of his life so he purchased his own copy of Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, and made an appointment for a complimentary Dianetics counselling session.
For volunteers, moments like that were the purpose of the outreach.
“Mental health awareness should not end when May ends, mental health is essential year round” said Nancy Herman, a volunteer with the Hubbard Dianetics Foundation of Ventura. “People we met were dealing with work pressure, family concerns, financial anxiety and the everyday stress of life in Ventura. Dianetics gives them a practical way to understand the source of that stress and tools they can use to take control of it.”
The Ventura activity was part of a coordinated global Dianetics outreach involving volunteers in over 250 cities across 50 nations. From Los Angeles to London and New York to New Delhi, teams offered the book which is translated in 50 languages and extended invitations to local lectures and seminars.
The Hubbard Dianetics Foundation of Ventura provides introductory demonstrations and weekend Dianetics Seminars. For more information, visit www.dianetics.org.
