Hosted on June 19, 2023
BURBANK, CA, June 08, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — Cayenne Wellness Center and Children’s Foundation (Cayenne Wellness Center) and the Sickle Cell Community Consortium are excited to announce the 4th Annual World Sickle Cell Day 2023 24-Hour Sickle Cell-A-Thon, taking place on June 19, 2023. The event aims to raise awareness for sickle cell disease, a genetic blood disorder that affects millions of people worldwide.
The Sickle Cell-A-Thon is a virtual event that will feature a 24-hour live stream of educational sessions, panel discussions, and entertainment. The event will be hosted by sickle cell advocates, healthcare professionals, and celebrities who will share their experiences and knowledge about sickle cell disease. The event will also feature sickle cell organizations worldwide.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Sickle Cell Community Consortium to host the 4th Annual World Sickle Cell Day 2023 24-Hour Sickle Cell-A-Thon,” said Dr. Carolyn Rowley, Founder and Executive Director of Cayenne Wellness Center. “This event is an opportunity to raise global awareness about sickle cell disease, sickle cell trait, and to provide education and support for individuals and families affected by this condition.”
Sickle cell disease is a life-long chronic condition that affects the red blood cells, causing them to break down and become misshapen. This can lead to a long range of complications, including severe pain, organ damage, and stroke. Researchers are currently working on curative therapies for sickle cell disease, and treatment options are limited.
“The Sickle Cell A Thon is a wonderful opportunity to learn about sickle cell disease and to hear from sickle cell patients and caregivers around the world. This community is vibrant, engaging, funny, educating, and empowering. We invite the greater community to join us to meet this wonderful group,” said Dr. Lakiea Bailey, Executive Director of the Sickle Cell Community Consortium.
